Vintage Fisher Price toys

Ava and her little friend got in a pretty bad argument the other day. It’s not pretty to witness two 2 ½ year olds fighting over a Fisher Price cash machine! But I understand where they come from — that cash machine is one of the coolest toys I remember from my childhood, together with the Fisher Price phone, the pull dog and the farm. Oh, and the toy xylophone! I still have my own Fisher Price farm at my dad’s place (see photo), and each time we visit my kids play with it. Especially Ava is at the age where she really loves it. Sadly, I never owned the cash machine, but I’m very tempted to get one! For her, not for me, obviously — *wink*. (Three Potato Four has some vintage Fisher Price toys in store at the moment.) Did you own Fisher Price toys as well as a child, and which one was your favourite?

This brings back happy childhood memories of playing with Fisher Price toys! We had the ferris wheel, airplane and parking garage, with a few of the Little People, which I so adored! Its such a shame they’ve changed them :(

Oh yes, the parking garage! With the lift!

I had the parking garage and the camper van and managed to get originals of both for my children, along with the record player. The cash machine sound brilliant and I’m very tempted to track one down!

Oh my gosh I forgot about the record player! The one with the different coloured disks — that was brilliant!

I absolutely love, love these toys. I have so many happy memories and I think my kids played with inherited vintage Fisher Price more then any other toy. My favourites, back in the day, where the pull-along dog, the radio and the telephone. Oh and the camping van with the boat that slotted into the roof.

Ohhhh I am just in love! I had a gorgeous little pull along dog from Fisher -Price which unfortunately got lost somewhere between childhood fun and adulthood. The funny thing was we were in a beautiful little opp shop and my 6 year old daughter found one exactly the same and she just loves it to death. She still carries it around with her today! BEST toy ever!

We have that pull along dog too and Ava loves it!

My husband came home the other day only to see my girls playing with the till and the farm. It brought such a smile to his face, remembering how he played with those toys as a child. When I was little we had the telephone, walking dog and the school desk. You can really see how Fisher Price attracted the attention of young minds. Love it!

oh, the little telephone….which my boys will never recognise as a telephone!

Haha, yes! That’s what I was thinking. Isn’t it crazy how the world has changed. Fond memories! xxx

I had this same barn and silo. I wish my parents still had it. I sooo remember playing with it (and dreaming that I would one day ride a horse and take care of a ‘real’ barn).
Oh… and yes, that telephone! I still remember the way the yes moved! xxx

My favourite was the brown tape recorder. You could play tapes and record yourself speaking. So great! Never had the garage but loved playing with it at friend’s houses. My mother still has the pull along dog and also a wind up ‘radio’. We had one of the old fashioned telephones for my daughters but they never played with it, the cord was so short you had to lie on the floor to have a conversation in the handset. Health and safety regulations anti-strangulation rules I’m sure.

Oh I love vintage Fisher Price. My daugther has the record player which I got on ebay and the phone, My mum kept my marry-go-round which my daughter now plays with and also a musical toy. I am so glad my mum kept so many things I had when I was a little kid :-)

Hello Esther,

As a child I had the little playskool school and schoolbus.
Hours of fun I had playing with it. Hopefully my goddaughter of one will have lots of fun with it as well.

Our boys grandparents still have my wife’s old fisher price farm set, the one you have pictured! Our boys love it and still get hours of play out of it when we visit. A true classic.

Hi Esther, my daughter recently got the cash machine as a Sinterklaas gift (it was bought at Kruidvat). She loves it as does the rest of the family and our visitors. Hope you’re able to get your hands on one…

Our 1970s Fisher Price house, school and record player are all at my dad’s house and are now being played with by all 5 of his grandchildren. It brings back memories seeing my twins playing with the things I cherished in my childhood.
