My Handbag Dilemna

Though it looks innocent, my handbag is an explosive device! Every time I put it down, its contents seems to self-eject and spread themselves in an approx 1 m radius from the bag. It even puzzles my 5-year-old, who the other day asked me with awe how I get my bag to explode…
I have tried everything: small bags and huge bags — but between wallet, phone, chapstick, lipstick, note pads, headphones, the book that should be read, the hat in case it rains, tissues (which have normally fallen out of their sleeve), cheap plastic toys, USB sticks, hair bands, stamped and ready to send letters, old bits of chewing gum wrapped in a receipt, random bills and even more random foreign change…. I have the feeling that my handbag is winning the battle of control over its content – not me. What about you, do you manage to take control of your bag?
The handbag in the photo is (obviously) not mine but my current dream bag, the Mulberry Alexa.

I have words of wisdom. I am going through the exact same thing tight now. Please keep us in the loop as to what you do end up getting. I too covet the Mulberry but with a 21 month old and a 5 year old its not a practical choice.
I know what your talking about. And I also read that a handbag is super gross, full of bacteria! I think my handbag actually has a stomach, it eats stuff. BTW, I bought a Murlberry bag just after Sara was born (the only expensive bag I ever bought), and it’s really handy because you can clip it around the handle of the pushchair!
This is why I use a simple canvas tote that I can throw in the wash. Leather is too heavy for me, and the simpler the bag, the less likely I am to stuff it with everything. The pockets of my Bedale are also amazing repositories of child-related stuff. The ventilation holes are especially useful when you end up stowing a juice box in your pocket…
loooove this bag. this bag would make me feel like a woman again.
Gosh, I have the same problem. I always tote around a simple canvas bag, nothing fancy. And I try to change it up (and wash it) at least once every couple weeks. I’m always amazed at how much junk ends up in my bag in only 2 weeks time! I guess it’s having children. Or did we also have this problem before kids?
xoxo
Court, to be honest, I have always had that problem, though I would love to blame it on the kids… Erin I also looove this bag…
i have a ‘normal’ handbag – i keep a brightly coloured kit pouch with stuff that my daughter ( 18 mnths) can play with and i dont mind her getting into – that way, she goes into the bag; find something i dont mind her having. She wins, I win.
ps: im currently saving up for a mulberry… it’ll be my second ( the first one is v.inconvenient. I never use it.. do i stop wanting another one…NO !)
ah, I have the same problem!! too many things in my bag, and a bag that is always too heavy!!!
just to be a bit more organized I use this very cleaver bag

i love my bag, it’s a great size, not too big but fits all the children’s stuff in. i never used a special nappy bag, just put a nappy and pack of wipes plus a fold up changing mat in my usual bag (and it’s really not that big). worst ever spillage was having a tommy tippee flip-lid cup in my bag (best cup ever) filled with juice that i forgot about for a couple of days. it fermented and went mouldy, the lid came off, i had to wash my bag 3 times to salvage it and get the smell out. gross. but i was so happy to have a washable bag. and yes my bag gets full of junk so fast! but i would love to have an expensive bag. one day…
A Mulberry Roxanne and a squashed kiwi fruit does not a happy mummy make…
funny — i was just wondering this week if my handbag was typical of all moms… at least i know mine sounds a lot like yours. every 10 days or so i dump it all out and clean it up and throw a lot of things out — and more importantly dump all the crumbs out my window for the birds. but how do you get rid of the crumbs stuck in my agenda, in the cracks of my phone, etc.?
