Football Fever

I have completely caught the football fever! While I normally never watch football and only have a faint notion of what ‘offsides’ means, I get so excited every four years when the World Cup is on! I love seeing all the different ways the teams play, the outrageous behaviour of some players and the impressive sportsmanship of others. I am even starting to argue about games and playing styles, hoping that no one will catch on that I actually have zero background information and that my new found enthusiasm is going to disappear the moment the final ball has been played.

Football World Cups  do have everything: suspense, politics, gossip and even outrageous fashion (if you follow the footballers wives). This year, most of my teams are out, though I am still cheering very hard for Germany. Has anyone else caught the football fever? Or am I the only female jumping up and down in front of the TV after the kids have gone to bed?

I actually stopped a deposition that I was taking with a large defense group when Landon Donovan made his goal against Algeria. There was a TV in the lobby of the law offices I was taking the deposition with the World Cup on it. When we heard the cheer, we all knew US had scored. No one was paying attention at that point so we took a break.
We are pulling for the Dutch in our house.

I have been waiting for the World Cup to start for the past 6 months! Our entire house has caught futbol fever (me worst of all) and are elated that our team is in the finals – Go Red Fury!
I actually made my 2 yr. old son cry as I was jumping up and down, screaming with tears of joy streaming down my face when Landon scored in the 91st minute vs. Algeria. It was truly a moment I will never forget, but honestly hope that he does!
I suppose it’s slightly out of the ordinary that all 4 of my children say, “Oh look, there’s mama’s boyfriend” whenever Diego Forlan (of team Uruguay) flashes onscreen. They understand that we’ll be breaking up once the Cup is over, though! So sad it all comes to a close this weekend.

I never watch football, but on Sunday, I’ll watch Spain versus Holland, it’s not everyday your team is going to win this cup, ha, ha.
What’s the nickname the Dutch team has?
Have you girls seen Iker Casillas? He’s cute cute.

So much fun, isn’t it! Things went crazy last night here in Palma de Mallorca and it’s sure to be a good match on Sunday. May the best team win but may a good time be had by all! (And yes Marta, Iker is a fox!)

It’s so funny how I am completely oblivious to the entire football world…. until the World Cup is on. I was so cheering for Ghana. It was as if my own son was on that team — I got so into it. I can’t wait for the final!
