Date Weekend — Mayflower Inn and Spa

Since having my girls, my husband and I have only taken 3 short weekend trips away from home. Six nights. Four years. Exactly six times where I have slept past 7:30 in the morning.   Now before you call me a loser… just wait… it gets even worse.  Those six nights were all spent at the exact same place. A place which is less than a two-hour drive from our house!

But look — it’s not that we are afraid to leave our children with the grandparents for a few days – it’s just that we really love going here and honestly, when it comes right down to it… vacation for us at this juncture in our lives means sleeping past 7am, eating well, taking a bath without someone banging on the door, and long stretches of quiet.

We always have an amazing time at the Mayflower Inn and Spa in Washington, CT. It is a luxury we treat ourselves to if we can once a year. They have an absolutely incredible spa with every treatment imaginable and the food and service is exceptional.  One of our favorite spots on the property is the amazing sun-room in the spa (pictured) that has huge picture windows and chairs made of marshmallows.  It’s a perfect place to read a book or just zone out before or after a treatment.  If you are in need of some weekend R&R I would say… run don’t walk.  Is is an indulgence but it’s worth it and I have not found many other places like this so close to the city.

Oh my goodness – i must be a massive loser….my daughter is 8 and a half and…wait for it….we have never had a single night away from our kids!!!!!! My husband travels now and then for work so he has but ‘me’ or ‘us’ together – not one! The only nights I have had away from my daughter was when I was in hospital giving birth to her brother!

We’ve only left our kids ONCE. That’s four nights away in five years. Pathetic!
We should check this place out next time we’re in the states…

Holy macaroni- who knew sleeping in Connecticut was so expensive? What’s the party scene like up there? Pretty bangin’?
