A different level of pop-up
A couple years ago we received this Jungle Book pop-up book as a present from Esther and it immediately became a favourite with my son and his little guests. The story is illustrated with the most amazing and complex pop-up scenes I have ever seen, some of them can even be animated by pulling some element of the scene. There are 6 main pop-up spreads but there are smaller ones hidden below flaps on most of the pages.
These are no ordinary pop-ups and in fact the author, Matthew Reinhart, studied industrial design to become a toy designer but then channeled his ability and creativity into paper engineering, also thanks to Robert Sabuda with whom he co-authored many projects.
There are more titles that will make any little boy happy, like Sharks and Dinosaurs encyclopedias but also a few titles that could appeal to girls like a Fairies book and Cinderella (also available in the US).
These books are nearly a piece of art, so if your little one is a bit clumsy or if you have a toddler around be careful!

These books are truly fantastic! Thanks for reminding me – I should get one for my own children too…
We have the Sharks encyclopedia one (of course!) because Easton is so into sea creatures.
But I have to say… It’s a bit complex and difficult for him to understand…
I think I like the stories (like The Jungle Book) better!
