Pink Lining

Pink Lining2This year my daughter started at the nursery of the British School here in Amsterdam. For me, a whole new phase in motherhood has started: buying school uniforms, and making school lunches.
Every morning I dress my daughter in her dark blue ensemble, and then prepare a healthy and nutritious lunch for her.
Her father then brings her to school, in true Dutch fashion — on the back of his bike!
How cute does she look, waving goodbye with one hand, her other hand holding her little school bag… She’s getting so big!

Speaking of schoolbags – since my daughter’s schoolbag has to hold her lunch bag as well as her juice beaker, I’ve learned that having a bag that is easy to wipe clean is a must!  A 3-year-old is apparently not always skilled enough to properly screw the lid of the beaker back on! Also, the lunch box and the beaker are quite heavy, let alone the additional weight of a book or two, so the bag should really be able to be used as a backpack too.
My daughter is very pleased with her schoolbag from Pink Lining. It has the above mentioned ‘must-have qualities’, and it also has the brand’s signature bright Pink Lining. Guess what my daughter’s favourite colour is…? Check.
The lunch section of the bag is insulated, so it keeps a hot lunch hot or a cold lunch cold. It is completely separated from the book part of the bag, so if something happens to spill you don’t have to worry about the books. It also has a ’secret pocket’, a little name tag, and 2 embroidered fairies on the front.
I can totally recommend this schoolbag!

Esther- do you mind to tell me how happy you are with the school?
our daughter is only 16 month but we are already thinking about school and the available options.
Has the international school a waiting list as well?

Thank you and enjoy the rest of this sunday (no rain)

Hi Esther,

Pink Lining School bag is very nice. Moreover it keeps hot lunch hot or cold lunch cold . This a nice feature.
I think we can also have same for our kid.

Thanks for posting.

In Italy children’s lunch is catered for by the school. If you have allergies or a special dietary requirement they prepare a special meal for you. It goes so far that children are not allowed to bring any food at all at school, for safety reasons!

Hi Peggy,
I don’t think the British school really has a waiting list, but I would advise to sign your daughter in soonish just in case. It’s free, so you might as well!
I personally love the British School, which BTW is not the same as the international school as far as I know, but I do think it’s a steep investment. We chose this route because we live an international life and we believe that raising our children bi-lingual is a big pro. We speak Dutch at home, so if our daughter would attend a Dutch school, this wouldn’t help. Also, we might be moving to another country again in the future, and now we are able to offer our children at least some sort of continuity (language wise and school system wise).
If however our first language would have been English to start with, my daughter would surely be going to a Dutch school, as they are absolutely wonderful, and free (and she would be learning a second language)!
Gabriella, I am not an expert about schools at all, but I’ve heard positive stories about the Europa school. I don’t think I’ve heard about the Amsterdam International Community school…

Esther,

thanks for your answer.
We are thinking about a “non dutch school” because of the languages our daughters grows up with as well. in our case: german, french and dutch at this moment.
we will definately move again in the future so we think an english/ international school is just the best choice regarding our lifestyle.
So maybe you will do a “week about schools”one day… :)

Hi there,
AICS is a great international school and also a wonderful melting pot of nationalities (and much more affordable than the BS or ISA). We love it there! S

Oh, I do think I’ve heard of the AICS, but I think one of the parents has to be non-Dutch? I should check it out!
Anyway, we’re really happy with the BSA…

Hmm, I really like the bag. I like DIY and might try the bag idea at home. But its any day better to buy the bag from Pink lining for convenience’s sake.
