Voting day
November 4, 2008
As an American living here in London, today is particularly important… Today is the day, of course, that America will elect its next president! My husband and I have both sent in our absentee ballots, so for us there is nothing more to do than wait…
Of course it’s particularly interesting for us, but apparently for the rest of the world as well. Check out this website — If The World Could Vote.
Isn’t it amazing how many people care? And, aren’t the results quite interesting? Cast your vote to see the results!

I do not think it amazing how many people care. America is a great country, about to make a great decision, which will impact upon the rest of the world hopefully!! You must feel very proud to be from a nation that can truly demonstrate that anything is very possible.
This is a moment in history. Obama is a once in a lfetime person, so glad I am witness to this.
People have embraced politics in America, a lesson for us all.
Fingers crossed!!
It is really amazing how important this election is to the rest of the world. The decision the Americans are going to make is going to have a huge impact on us non- Americans and we can only sit around and wait to see what happens. Its a big, big day!
I agree with all of the above. This is a moment in history that will impact the entire world not just the United States. As an American living abroad, I thank my European friends for giving me this perspective. I never realized the impact an election has on the rest of the world until now. I am humbled.
Fingers AND TOES crossed…
fingers crossed, but also…have you noticed how the world would have voted if it could?? IMPRESSIVE, I so wish these percentages were the real US ones.
It’s 6:30 am here in NY and I cannot wait to go out and cast my vote- we have been waiting for this day for what seems like an eternity…ok, more like 8 years. It is a big day indeed. I hope for a change for us all!
Also sent in my absentee ballot about TWO WEEKS ago so it’s all set!! I did vote on If the World Could Vote as well and my man is winning!!! Will be sharing this on my FB account too. It’s interesting but not surprising what the world thinks. Fun! Thanks for sharing.
Oh, Courtney! FYI: I saw on one of the few stations that we get here from England that itv 1 will be covering the election from 23:45 until 06:00. I sadly won’t be staying up as I still am taking advantage of my 3 1/2 month old sleeping about ten hours a night and sleeping myself! :0)
(10 hours, lucky you, Sara). I plan to stay up until midnight (Belgian time) because it’s when msnbc will publish the first results… but I’m sick right now, and have to take care of my son tomorrow, as Wednesday is our day off (from daycare and work). So the bed temptation might be stronger than Barack. Or not.
History has been made tonight! and NY is in full celebration- it’s awesome!
Congratulations America with your new president! Excellent choice! Wish I was there to celebrate with you!!!!!!!
Honestly, I can now safely say… I am so proud to be an American!!
Hooray!
Courtney and Kirstin you must both be so proud to be an American today. Your country has set the scene now for a better world for all of us. Anything is possible !
I am so glad that I am alive today to witness such a momentus time.
sorry Kristin spelt your name wrong, give my love to New York!!
Thanks, Jude. My friend reminded me of how they say things look darkest just before the dawn.
Apparently 84% of the French population would have voted for Obama (that is the headline here in one of the leading newspapers). What I am loving is that one of hippest shops here at the moment, Zadig et Voltaire, have brought out 100% cashmere jumpers out with “Obama” written on them (they also have a hefty price tag attached to them). You just cannot beat the French, they are the only one’s who would think of cashmere campaign shirts!
There is a great op ed piece in the New York Times, written by Judith Warner.
