Free Rice!
October 15, 2008
Do you know about this website yet? I’m completely obsessed!
Free Rice has two goals: to provide education to everyone for free, and to help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people. It works like this… they ask the questions, and you answer them. For every answer you get right, they donate 20 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.
You can choose from a variety of subjects, like art, chemistry, math, language, geography, etc. So you can either choose your strong subjects and donate more rice, or choose your weak subjects and learn a thing or two!
You really can’t go wrong! And I’m warning you… it’s addictive!

I already donated 3000 grains of rice, and reached level 30 in the English vocabulary, which isn’t bad for a non-native English speaker, in my opnion!
This site is most definitely trouble in that a) it is going to steal way too much of my time (albeit for what appears to be a good cause) and b) it will certainly make it clear just how little of my childhood education I still have with me.
I’m hooked!!!
Do the have addiction classes forthis?
My kids are gonna hate the computer… I love this site! Thanks Courtney!
yea, i’m totally addicted now too. i’m trying to remember all the paintings i studied in college.
i’m going to mention this on my blog, too!
thanks so much for the tip!
Amazing. What a concept! And what an addiction. Love the paintings and the vocab. Thanks!!!
This site is so fun! I found myself saying “okay once I get to 3000 grains I’ll stop…” but the number just kept increasing. Way to test out all those years of Spanish that were learned 9-13 years ago!
I know!! And, I’m addicted to the geography. For someone who travels a ton, you would think I would be much better at being able to correctly locate each country!! But I love that I’m learning!!
