Diptyque (and Zara Home)
Amongst the best scented candles in the world are without doubt the ones from Dyptique… Who doesn’t know those beautiful glass jars with the sober black and white design and elegant lettering, often beautifuly displayed in exquisite stores?
These famous candles come in a variety of 53 divine scents (woodsy, spicy, green, floral or fruity), and all fragrances are completely natural and inspired by the scents one can encounter when traveling through the Mediterranean and the Near East…
When I was working in NYC I once went shopping with the famous interior designer Jacques Grange, and as we were standing in front of the beautiful Diptyque display in an exquisite store on 5th Avenue, he pointed out to me which Diptyque fragrance is preferred by what royalty or star. (If his aim was to impress me with his former clientele he surely succeeded!) Unfortunately I’ve forgotten all the information he gave me, so if I’m ever going to be the house-guest of Princess Caroline or Yves Saint Laurent, unfortunately I won’t be able to bring them their favourite Diptyque candle… Blast!
My favourite Diptyque fragrance (Jacques Granges take note) is Figuier, which is one of the top four fragrances in the Diptyque line, along with Tuberose, Baies and Feu de Bois. But, if you’re ever going to be my house-guest, I won’t be picky! I honestly love all of them!
There is, unfortunately, one disadvantage about these candles – even considering the fact that they are good for as many as 60 hours of burning: they are expensive! Too expensive for the average household!
Now, if you really need to get rid of that smell from the diaper bin before your boss comes over for dinner – don’t panic! And above all, don’t take refuge in one of those too cheap, too synthetic smelling candles!
We found out that a very good and much cheaper alternative to the Diptyque candles are the ones from Zara Home.
I personally like the Orange Blossom one, and I know Courtney prefers the White Jasmin…

I love these candles but have never bought one for myself. Jo Malone in London do great candles also but they are expensive too! I’m going to buy a Zara candle next time I am there

Has anyone else stopped burning candles since they’ve had babies? I miss them, but am so afraid to burn them with kids in the house.
I have started using more candles now then I did before kids (obviously out of their reach or when they are in bed). It is a good way of covering over a particularly bad nappy smell!
