I find them secure and a firm fit, perhaps due to the elasticated band at the front of the shoe. We have had several pairs of Bensimons over the years which are a similar look and which I really love but I have to say they are not nearly as firm on the foot. In fact my sons kindergarten teacher asked me to not to put him in them anymore as when he plays football ('Aussie Rules' style of course!) they always flop off with the ball! But these WALNUT shoes are more firm than the Bensimons and we seem to be having no 'flop-off' problems! Yes, they do stay put!
