Big on style

Okay, so this is perhaps a little extravagant, but chairs are my weakness (they’re like the shoes of the interior world – great accessories that complete a look).
Little Nest is an Australian company that produces replica products of design classics. Think the Barcelona chair – but for kids! All pieces that you’d covet for your living room but you can buy for your little ones. No frou frou kids’ rooms here! The company’s tag is “good things come in little packages” – too true.

I feel strongly that children should not be exposed to designer cliches, esp expensive and reproduction designer chairs. Its the wrong message, doesn’t say anything about the child, moreso about the mindset of the parents.

Megan, thanks for taking the time to comment. I linked from my Daily Imprint blog to this post asking others if they agreed with designer-style furniture for kids. There are some people that love it, and that’s why I chose to alert Australian readers to a company that provides this kind of furniture. And there are other people who think it’s entirely unnecessary. Me? I love the little retro chair I bought for little C in a second hand shop in Tasmania. It cost only $30 and I sit on it – even though it’s kid size – and read him bedtime stories.

Megan, I don’t want to start a discussion about design, but EVERY chair on earth is designed. Even the simplest kitchen chair. When a chair has a special design to it we call it a ‘designer’ chair, but it is still just a chair.
I personally feel fine about surrounding kids with ‘designer’ chairs and educate them from an early age about beautiful or different shapes. For this reason I also like to bring them to museums. Of course, they shouldn’t be living in a museum, they should be allowed to play. My kids love to use our Le Corbusier chair as a slide.
