Animal party

March 3rd, 2009

Ikea MasksMy friend, Mo, invited us to her son’s animal-themed 2nd birthday party last week, and it was great fun!  I’m always impressed when someone manages to throw a children’s birthday party in a simple and tasteful way, without all the glitz and gimmicks of sparkly decorations, hired entertainers, fancy food and money thrown out the window… Especially when the child is only two.

One of Mo’s clever ideas involved a bag full of animal masks from Ikea.  Everyone got to choose a mask from the bag — bunny rabbit, dog, bear, cat, chicken, etc.  The kids LOVED them, and it was so cute to see eight different little animals running around.

The kids got to take their masks home with them as part of their goodybags, which of course thrilled the kids even more.  Such a cute idea, and so simple!

What a brilliant idea. I am totally lost with all these fancy parties of a lot of our sons friends. And you confirm again my thoughts that it is all getting a bit over the top now a days! Seems more like a parent rat race to me than for the children. It doesn’t sound like those children had any less fun at that party than that they would have had at some entertainment centre!
