Hema plates
Esther has already praised the Dutch shop Hema, and while I have never been to Hema myself, I see these cool children’s plates everyday on my table so I just could not refrain from telling you about them. They are my son’s favourite plates!
The first set was a present from Esther three Christmases ago, I think. There is a bowl (perfect for soup or pasta), a small plate and a large one — nearly gastropub size if you know what I mean. This big plates is perfect for main courses that involve meat/fish, a couple of sides and maybe even a dash of ketchup… everything fits!
We added all of the remaining dishes at the beginning of the year when another good Dutch friend brought them back from the Netherlands for us. We now also own a set for my daughter and two extra ones for any little guests.
These plates are clearly children’s equipment, not even trying to mimic grown-up stuff (if not for the size) but the pictures are extremely cool… so many of our friends like them!
It’s just too bad that Hema does not ship abroad; my daughter has managed to do in one day what my son did not do in 3 years… she chipped her bowl by throwing it violently on the floor. Trust me, just bad luck… these plates are really sturdy!

Esther has also given us a set of these plates, and we also LOVE them! Super cute.
And they are now in Paris (well, Créteil Soleil shopping center) since late January!! Has anyone been to check out the store yet? Is it worth going?
