No tantrums here…

Tantrum hair salonMy experience with kiddie hair salons has always been the same: the place looks cool, my kids love it and sit still and happy in their seat, BUT they still manage to walk out with a less-than-stellar haircut.  Too much glitz, not enough guts.

Thankfully, this is NOT the case at the new children’s hair salon, Tantrum, on the King’s Road, where I took my youngest son for his first real haircut last week. (I’ve been dreading the risk of cutting off his baby curls, so I was delaying the inevitable!)

He got a great cut, and we both left happy… curls in tact!

Tantrum for bigger kidsTantrum is a cool, new concept in children’s hairdressing — designed to make the experience as easy and pleasant as possible for both the child and the parent. There are cars, trains, and planes for kids to sit in, and flat-screen televisions at every station.  Books and toys are on-hand for easy distraction, as well as a treasure chest of goodies to help keep your kids focused and well-behaved.  Downstairs is catered to older children (aged 8 to 14), with cool stations, more TVs and a fish tank.

They will also host birthday parties complete with entertainers, food, cakes and goodybags. Think little girls’ parties where they can get ‘pampered’ with sparkly manicures and new hairdos!

Ohhh… to be a kid again!

Sooo cool! Are you sure they only do kid’s cuts?

Very, very cool! But £20- £25 per haircut per toddler goes a bit too far for me! But I am sure it is a very smart business idea as there must be a lot of parents who would be prepared to pay this price, cool idea!

Yes, Tantrum is good and worth it for the quality of the cut. My son has straight hair which shows every snip, and we tried everything around and have spent months growing out horrible cuts, including a very expensive disaster from my own salon when I got desperate!.Harrods was fine until the girl went off the boil, but this place is nicer and so much easier to get in and out of. It doesn’t seem to matter who does the cut, they’re all fully properly trained in reputable adult schools.

The ultimate children’s cut is by the lovely Bruno Lienard http://www.brunolienard.com in Paris, a couple of blocks from the Bon Marche. He’s a one man show, has a gorgeous little salon, spins children a small candy floss for being good and they leave looking divine!

Wow, that is fancy! I was wondering what the cost was, but my son would just love those planes. We have a place at our local mall that we always go to where the kids get to sit on horses. He loves it and it’s the only way he’ll sit still for a haircut!

I’d certainly make my visit to the barber more frequent if I knew there was a flatscreen waiting for me!
