Victoria Beckham
I am hoping I’m not bringing the tone down here at Babyccino, but seriously, what do you girls think about Victoria Beckham? (You can really tell that I am thinking deep thoughts today….).
I really, really used to dislike her — she represented everything to me that is wrong with today’s celebrity culture. But recently I am starting to get grudging respect for the girl. She can’t sing, that much is clear, but she really has managed to create a career out of nothing, and (again grudgingly) I’m quite impressed by the dress collection she recently designed. She has in fact marketed herself so well that she does not often embarrass herself in the gossip pages of magazines and yet she is everywhere. As far as I know she is not thrusting her kids into the media headlights, she seems to be married to a guy she got together with because she liked him, and yet — or because of this — she is slowly morphing into a style icon instead of the trashy C-grade pop starlet she once was….

Hilarious!!
I don’t know… I still sort of think she’s a bit on the trashy side. I wish she would smile every once in a while.
Funny… I was just talking about this recently with a girlfriend. She used to drive me nuts, agreed, everything wrong with celebrity culture. But I read something recently which made me think that maybe she’s onto something, she knows she is a brand and is using it to her full advantage. You never see unflattering pictures of her, she is splashed everywhere across magazines, but without any real drama or story even, just her looking like perfection. I can’t decide whether to hate her or accept that she may be brilliant.
Love it. I have to say, I saw a program about a charity party she and Becks threw some years ago at their home. I taped it to watch late one evening. And I came away from it loving her. She came across as having an absolutely fun sense of humor, including about herself which I admire in anyone. And indeed, kudos to her for building a brand. Clearly there’s a market for her or she wouldn’t still be making headlines.
Those dresses are so cool! I must say I respect this woman. And I also read somewhere that despite the fact that she never really smiles in public this is actually part of the pose and that in reality she’s very funny and smiley. It might have been in Vanity Fair that I read this?
I like the dresses!
I agree with Courtney, she is a bit on the trashy side but I can’t dislike her too much!
She’s always a bit extreme, but I would love to have a peak at her Birkin bags collection!!!
Maybe a teensy bit on the trashy side, but much improved over the spice girl years!! And while I do wish she’d eat (and smile) a little bit more, I have to say, she always looks pretty amazing wherever the papparazzi happen to catch her. And I totally love and respect that fact that she shields her kids as she can and doesn’t seem to love to hate the media attention as so many American celebrities pretend to. So all in all, I have a pretty positive image of her actually.
Apparently, she’s also joined her husband in the field of underwear modeling. Modeling for Armani lingerie I heard…
If Victoria Beckham were not married to David Beckham who has the real talent of the two, we would not be hearing about her at all!
Frankly, her only talent is capitalising on her husbands brand. I think she has done that extremely well!! I think it is still debatable as to whether she has fashion talent, I think people want the Beckham brand, and that is David not her. She appears orange most of the time, and I have never sen her being natural with her kids, apart from constant airport shots! ( Remember the way Princes Diana was so natural with her kids publicly, given who she was)
Having watched part of a doc on their move to LA, she came across as a prima donna with a very unhealthy body image, and weird eating habits.
If you’ve not gathered , she is not my favorite celeb person!! but since you asked…….
I think she is better nowadays than when she was Posh Spice. However, the girl needs to eat something!
I agree with Jude, I saw some of the documentary as well, and yes, snobby prima donna did come to mind.
