I Carry ERGO sunt

I am not obsessed with babywearing, but in the past 3½ years I have done my share of carrying babies. I used the Tricotti and the Babybjorn quite extensively but this past summer I went looking for a new carrier — summers in Italy are too warm for the Tricotti and even my daughter was too big and heavy for the Babybjorn. After some search I opted for the ERGObaby carrier, and I’m quite pleased with it. I think that the main attraction for this carrier is that it really works for babies, toddlers and even pre-schoolers. We used it a lot while hiking in the mountains; we kept it in the rucksack until needed, and if my 3-year-old son was tired of walking and needed a rest, my husband moved the rucksack to the front and carried our son on the back, piggy-back style (making use of the sleeping hood too). If instead we were doing a more easy hike and had our pushchair with us, we would let our son take a rest in it and I would front-carry the baby in the ERGO. While babies can also be carried in the back, it’s not that easy to get a non-walking and un-cooperative baby in the carrier by yourself. I have to say that this carrier is extremely well designed — the weight of the baby is well distributed between hips and shoulders so you can really carry a heavy child for longer. Children are comfortable too as the ERGObaby supports a correct sitting position. You can also buy a few accessories, like a backpack or front pouch, so you can carry more stuff but it inevitably would make it more bulky. I also bought sucking pads, but my daughter never found those straps so appetizing so ended up not using them much. They also make a baby insert for very young babies, but I have not used it, and from my experience, I would think that other carriers are more suitable for newborns. It is nonetheless another option, especially if you would like to buy a carrier that can work from day one up until your baby weighs 18kg (or 40 pounds). Oh, and there is also an organic range. You are so right! I have an ERGO too and I love it. It is so great to be able to use it both on the front and the back!

I’ve been looking for a new carrier because the BBjorn just isn’t comfortable and my little girl only ways 12 pounds. This one looks great.

I love this carrier! I still use it for airports with my 2 and 1/2 year old.

I also have an Ergo baby carrier and it has been very useful to me. I just wanted to point out that there are many other similar carriers out there, for instance I believe that the is a little more stylish?
Other brands are eg “Patapum” and “Manduca”.

I agree that for a newborn, another carrier is probably more appropriate. I tried my ERGO when my daughter was 3 1/2 months and as soon as I pulled her legs apart to perch her around my waist, she started crying. But she LOVES it now and I love that I’m so comfortable carrying her. It really does balance the weight much better than anything else I’ve tried (BBjorn, slings, etc).

It is all we used after 6 months of age ( and I AM baby carrier obsessed – having owned 23 over the course of four kiddos). It beat out the kelty, two itterations of the baby bjorn and any number of slings and wraps. Just the most practical carrier on the block!
