Boo in the City
Boo! In a city that is home to so many creative types, it is only natural that it would also play host to the largest Halloween parade in the world. That’s right — the world! But, don’t take my word for it. If you’re in town, join the 50,000 or so folks dressed in their best Halloween finery or the 2 million or so spectators perched along 6th Avenue and you will see for yourself! Of course, I am referring to New York’s 35th annual Village Halloween Parade where some of the most creative people in the world come out in droves to try and out-create, out-perform and out-scare each other. Be sure to expect ‘an anything goes’ kind of event, where you will be jostled around by a huge crowd of mostly costumed, revelers (i.e., this event is not for young kids). Of course, if you’re a local you can also tune into NY1 and catch the whole parade on tv!
The kids will be more comfortable at the 18th annual Greenwich Village Children’s Halloween Parade that convenes today at 3:00 p.m. under the arch in Washington Square Park. This event proves to be an outlet for the wildly creative parent-types . . . and it is fun for the kids too. This is where I plan to be with my little Robot Monster. I hope this isn’t the last year for the homemade Halloween costume… duck tape, tin foil and glue — don’t fail me now!
Now, if you want to experience what it’s like to be in the world’s largest children’s parade, (that’s right, the world’s largest!) head to 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, any where from 12th Street to Union Street, starting at 6:30 p.m. to participate in the Park Slope Children’s Halloween Parade. I can tell you from experience, this is an amazingly fun and kid-friendly way to celebrate Halloween!

I had no idea about all of these parades!! How wild!
Did you guys have fun??
I’d love to see more pictures! Always looking for ideas of where to go with all that duct tape and foil. What fun!
We had sooo much fun! It was a jam packed day of Halloween festivities. And, because Halloween fell on a Friday, the city was lit up like a firecracker! We ended up trick or treating on the west side forgetting that we would need to cross through the parade in order to get home. Oops! So, we ended up smack dab in the middle of the Village Parade, but luckily, it was not too terribly long before we crossed 6th avenue. It was exciting- the costumes, the marching bands, everyone was in full swing!
