Kid O

Kid 0My husband and I are just beginning to discuss ideas of how we are going to convert our toddler-only bedroom into a toddler/baby bedroom, and so far the discussions are going well. But, frankly, we need to get a move on! So, last night I decided to skip the nightly talks and instead hit the web in search of ideas for making this conversion happen sooner rather than later. I quickly ended up on the Kid O website, which is a great design store for children located in New York’s West Village. I’ve always appreciated Kid O whenever I’ve walked through the store, but I must say I’m even more impressed by their website. As this is our second time around, I find myself revisiting certain pieces I had secretly coveted, like the Enzo Mari “la mela” print that a friend of mine has hanging in her kitchen. But given the limited size of the room, I imagine something a little smaller, like the flying fish mobile.

In keeping with their store, the website is soooo easy to navigate: designed to help you shop either by age, environment, educational philosophy or activity. Under each item on the site there is a detailed description of the product or a brief history of the brand with a focus on offering toys that are educational, high quality, and often hand-made. While certain items are definitely pricey, they do seem more like investment pieces with a lasting quality, not only because they are well made, but also because they have multiple uses that can be explored as the child grows.

WOW! What a fantastic looking store. Makes me wish I also lived in NYC….though perhaps it’s a good thing I don’t as I think our budget would take a serious hit. :)

As a Grammy who comes to NYC often to visit my babies, I am so pleased to be hearing about places in this fabulous city to visit, eat, shop with my little ones. I’d love suggestions for parks, museums, events that delight as well. Yea to NYC on this great website!

We did the same thing 3 years ago and are now going through the next phase….converting into a big boy/no longer really a toddler room. # years ago I went with all white- worked with the crib etc and though that certainly was my aesthetic of that moment, I am now finding that while white furniture works well for grown ups, it makes a little boys room look a little, well, babyish. I am now converting everything to more natural woodtones ( just made the move to a bunkbed! exciting! scary! high!)

There is also a wonderful baby shoe store nearby called the Shoe Garden that is so dangerous to the pocketbook ( http://www.shoegardennyc.com/ ) and you can have a cupcake and chocolate milk next store at Batch – Great afternoon!!
