Shrinky Dinky

October 7th, 2008

shrinky dinksThe moment I spotted these Shrinky Dinks on Quiet House Toys, they brought me back to the Seventies…
Sitting at my best friend’s kitchen table, both of us with our tongues out of our mouths, working in immense concentration on a whole lot of Shrinky Dinkies (in Holland they were called Krimpie Dimpie I believe).

Do you remember Shrinky Dinky too? Or are you an eighties child?
Shrinky Dinks date back from 1973 (like me!), and are basically large, flexible sheets that you can design upon and cut into shapes, and that will shrink 60% when you put them in the oven, keeping the felt-tip decoration! Very cool!
I didn’t even know they still existed, but they do and I want them! Not for my children (too small anyways), but for meee!

I was talking about this the other day with my friend. We remember keyrings they put in your cereal box and you melted them in the oven. She also put chip packets in the oven and melted them but I think i would of been killed if I tried that!!

they do look cool indeed, but I must say I have never seen them before. And I’m definitely a 70s child!

Are you kidding me?!? I totally remember shrinky dinks… I’m having trouble remembering what sets I had… I seem to recall some smurf shrinky dinks but I know there were others.

Thinking back I wonder what these toys were actually made of? Wonder if they’re safe?

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
    :)

I loved them as a kid! I think my Mom used to hang them on the sliding glass doors that led to our screened- in porch. Love the 70’s! How can you not?
