Not all plastic toys are created equal.

March 13th, 2008

gowi-main.gifYou all have written a lot about super cute ecological wooden toys (plan city, snail, Sibi rocker… ), but there are moments when your kids just keep asking for some colourful plastic trucks and diggers and you have no choice but to give in! (What can you do)?
If you must buy plastic, but don’t want to give in to those ugly and cheap vehicles (invariably made in China), you may want to have a look at the Gowi range.
Gowi has been making toys in Austria for over a hundred years (first metal, then plastic). They are made of sturdy plastic and are PVC-free. The wheels of their vehicles are even made of rubber — much more similar to real life tires! Trucks, tractors, diggers… the whole range is so nice. You can buy them boxed or without the box, to save on space and unnecessary packaging.
gow8.gif We also have some of their sandpit tools, and they are great too. You can even find toy plates and cutlery and some very cute cooking equipment.
We discovered them while on holiday in South-Tirol (the German speaking part of Italy, bordering Austria) and have not seen them since. In fact, they have agents all over the world… except for Italy!

How cool. My son would love a plastic digger! I love that the wheels are rubber and not plastic. Like you said, if you MUST buy plastic, this is a great option…

What a great idea to sell with or without the box! I love that!
Plastic toys are great for in the garden – you can just leave them out there in the rain…
