I'm so glad the Bebe Au Lait is working for you. Yes, Emilie, your story was hilarious (probably more so now than it was at the time)! Also, thanks for the link!

I am the same, but I was living in London. In Italy it's a different matter, people are so much more conservative!! Breastfeeding in public is just not done - you might as well be pole dancing!

I have one but only used it with my first. Breastfeeding in public never bothered me, whether other people frowned upon it or not. I just used a little blanket from the diaper bag that seemed to work well.

I literally copied Courtney's scarf method and it worked really well for me in London and Paris. There is not a huge amount of public breastfeeding in Paris, but you do see it now and then and no one seems to care.
I was once sitting in a cafe in the Marais feeding my daughter and had forgotten my scarf. She came off my breast and I literally squirted milk onto the window I was sitting by. I was mortified, but some people walking passed laughed instead of looking shocked... but it might have helped that I was sitting in a cafe in a more liberal part of Paris!

I actually find that people in the Netherlands breastfeed less than in the UK, or less long, that is. I think it is because mums have to go back to work after 3 months, and expressing is such a hassle. But things seem to be changing!
In London you'll find it quite common to see breastfeeding mums in public (especially in Starbucks!), but in the Netherlands I don't see it that often, like Krees said before. The bébé au lait would certainly come in handy! Or Starbucks, for that matter! :-)

How funny. My sister-in-law gave me one of these when my first son was born. It was really cute, but I always found it more of a hassle to take everywhere, dig it out of the bag when you need it, etc.
But I suppose I live in a city where it isn't too frowned upon. (I also am not very modest and don't really care if people don't approve- because it's totally natural, and beautiful, etc.)

Though- I did see a woman on an airplane in the states with one of these, and it did seem to really work well for her. (You couldn't even tell she had a baby under there).

I just always wore a scarf and used that to shield my boobs... :)

Congrats on finding something that works for you! I considered something like that but was afraid it would draw even more attention to us.

Here in the Netherlands, everyone is very very pro-breastfeeding. So it's been a surprise to me that I don't see MORE moms doing it in public. I think I've seen one other mother at Ikea (hunched over against a wall, appearing for all the world as though she would disappear if she could) and maybe one mother at a cafe. But I also live out in the country and get into the cities only on weekends. Esther, what's your take?

Also, we're hoping to visit Paris and London in the next year or so. I'd love to hear Courtney's and Emilie's opinions on breastfeeding in public in those cities. How common and accepted is it?
