Big scissors and small heads

I have always had a fear of taking my 2-year-old to the hairdresser; the idea of some Sweeny Todd-type person swinging big, sharp scissors around her head (and possibly miscalculating and nipping into her ear) has kept me from taking her to have her hair cut. BUT dreadlocks just don’t look so good on a toddler so I finally got over myself and booked the dreaded appointment.

We found a brilliant little salon called Coup’Kid here in Paris specializing in little people. They have several TV screens playing cartoons which are placed really low so that a kid running away from the scissors is instantly distracted. They have a huge play area and the hairdressers have no problem cutting hair anywhere in the salon as long as the kid is happy. After a lot of effort from the hairdresser (I would have lost my cool) my 2-year-old ended up looking as sweet as pie, and we walked away with a little certificate with a lock of hair attached to it and a very proud daughter!

Well, my daughter’s hair is growing so slow – at the age of one she had barely any hair, and now at a good 2 1/2 I can make a little cut pony tail on top of her head, but that’s about it. No hairdresser necessary!
However my little boy needs a cut soon -but given my geological distance from Paris I might give it a go myself (our friend Sally has been cutting her boy’s hair and it looks so cute!)

We have Cozy’s Cuts for Kids here in NY and it’s great. The kids get to pick their favorite DVD to watch and they get to sit in cars too. They even get a balloon when they are done. The girls also get to pick little beads for their hair if they want.

Did they do a good job? My son’s hair is so thick, so if it isn’t cut well, it definitely shows.
We used to take him to those cute kid’s haircutters, but I couldn’t ever find one that did a good job. Now he goes to the same hairdresser as my husband. (They get back-to-back cuts)!

My hubby once had his hair cut at on of those kids’ places… it was hilarious! It was a dad & son special, and since we were there getting my son’s hair cut we figured dad might as well too!
